Lairig Ghru: Braemar to Aviemore

Always a pleasure to walk this fine route. The difficulties mainly lie in the logistics of getting back to where you started to pick up your vehicle.

The weather was the usual summer mix of glorious sunshine near Mar Lodge and mizzle near the pools of Dee. The midge made an appearance towards Rothiemurchus but the descent through incredible Scots Pine is always fine.

Winter returns to Drumochter

It is always prudent to pack ice axe and crampons when there is snow lying.

Snow level was 650m with about 5cm of fresh post yesterday's claggy and cold conditions. Today however, the blue skies returned. A slightly later start of 1230hrs resulted in 2 x blue sky Munro's whilst the early birds caught the crowds and the mist!

A wonderful 12km day out above the snow line.

Glencoe Skyline

What a brutal but exhilarating race. The best terrain that Glencoe has to offer, some traditional Scottish mixed weather and a brilliant atmosphere.

55km, 4700m ascent, 11hrs 30mins.

Will I do it again? We will see!

Lake District mountain running

A superb 30km mountain run from Glen Ridding up Helvellyn via Striding Edge, down Swrillel edge and the ridge line linking Raise, Dollywaggan Pike and Patterdale. Warm temps with plenty of people out and about. Great!

Stunning views Loch Rannoch

Awonderful trip to loch Rannoch exploring the various Munros inthe area. If you haven't yet visited, this is somewhere which rates in my Top5places in the world. The 9 days of wall to wall sunshine and +20oC temperatures with no sign of the midge have all helped make this a truly memorable adventure!

Blowy and snowy

A fairly wild day in the northern corries. Plenty of people out enjoying the snow including several optomisitc ski tourers. I think their bases would have suffered a little on the rocky descent!
